The vineyard is located between Niebaum Lane and Manley Lane 0.7 miles west of Route 29 in the heart of Rutherford Bench, which has a worldwide reputation for growing great Cabernet Sauvignon. This is the 12th year that we have produced wine from this vineyard. Its light, dusty, gravely soils produce grapes with vibrant fruit and impeccable balance. The fruit results in wines composed of equal parts power and finesse. The wines we make from this vineyard have great longevity but are also very drinkable when they are released. Each year, we produce single vineyard designated Cabernet and Zinfandel from this very special vineyard.
Tietjen Vineyard
Located near the Morisoli Vineyard on Niebaum Lane, the Tietjen Vineyard, is also in the heart of the Rutherford Bench. The Cabernet Sauvignon we obtain from this vineyard produces juice which is deep color with heavy fruit extracts. The wines it produces have flavors of ripe cassis, cherry and wild berries. We age them in oak barrels to add sweet whiskey aromas and vanilla nuances to the flavors. These wines are always very appealing to drink when released, but don't be fooled; they will reward those who age them for another 5 to 10 years until they reach their drinking prime.
Hayne Vineyard
This famous old-vine vineyard is the source for our limited production Petite Sirah. The vineyard is in gravely soil that was deposited by ancient glaciers. The head-pruned vines yield very little, but produce wines with great fruit concentration and power. The big, bold, dense wines that we produce from this fruit have intense varietal character and extremely long finishes.
Hoffman Lane Estate Vineyard
Our estate vineyard is located just south of Yountville on the bench land on the west side of Napa Valley. The Cabernet Sauvignon vines were planted with four-foot by seven-foot spacing and are vertically trained. The long cooler growing season results in fruit that is much more Bordeaux in style than California. The Jacob Franklin Cabernet we produce from this vineyard, which is only available at the winery, has great fruit concentration and flavors of cassis, olives and "the terrain" and is reminiscent of the wines of St. Estephe, the northernmost appellation in Bordeaux.
